Timetable Information September 2020: Important Announcement

All classes have been delayed until after the October Half Term.

Firstly, I’d like to thank everyone for their support. All classes will be running to full capacity and it’s what will keep Starmakers going this year.

I’m having to work very closely with two different venues, and following various guideline changes, in conjunction with the venues; we have made a joint decision that delaying classes is the best current option.

I have been writing detailed Risk Assessments of hundreds of pages and formulating all the plans for Covid Security. This process is long winded and needs to comply with the Venues Risk Assessment as well as supporting my Child Protection Policy. I’ve felt rushed to complete this process, and having only gained access to the space today, have made the decision to delay our start date.

It’s not been an easy decision to take. If you have already paid in full, your child’s place is secure in the class. The payment will simply roll over to the new start date. My priority first and foremost is student safety. Please do contact me directly to discuss bookings or any concerns you may have regarding returning to class.

Thank you

Morwenna Gee

Everything Must Change

As I planned my tenth year of Starmakers last year I anticipated joyous celebration, performances, workshops with our Alumni and most importantly togetherness. 2020 has just exploded like a bomb and thrown all plans out the window; not just for me, but for everyone. Life as we now know it- is different.

We have lost our space at Gaia. This has caused me so much sadness, it has really begun to feel like home. We had created some very very special work there. I felt we had the chance to dream big at Gaia and really make things happen.

I then found out- lots of spaces aren’t opening at all. Delabole Methodist Church (our original space) won’t be opening until further notice. This turned my sadness to stress. Could this be it for Starmakers? Luckily we have been taken in by Cleese Hall. This does mean time and day changes to all classes; which ultimately might not work for all… but it’s all I now have.

The Covid Rules means I’ll essentially be working with reduced numbers and reduced classes, plus all my rates have gone up. For this reason I am going to have to be stricter with bookings and payments (as all my costs are fixed). I will also have to run classes to their capacity, so if numbers drop, the class may no longer be viable.

For this reason I’m doing a slightly delayed start (second week of term). I’d like the kids to all have a chance to settle at school (mine included), and give you parents a chance to have a proper look at the new timetable before committing.

Any questions- please do private message me - I will endeavour to get back to you ASAP!

May News From Starmakers HQ

As life has changed so dramatically in the last two months Starmakers has followed suit and adapted by transitioning to Virtual Live lessons and the accompanying online activities. As a teacher I’m used to being reactive and continually adapting and evaluating to grow and develop lessons to keep them exciting and engaging. I have been delighted to see students at home creating. My Contemporary dancers have produced a dance film, inspired by the Instagram movement “dancing alone together”

Ballerinas and Musical Theatre dancers have performed as part of our ‘Theatre Lounge’, a program created to follow our normal syllabus and performance schedule. Students have produced posters and tickets, several live streaming to Grandparents across the county.

Star - Makers has also been launched. A weekly collection of arts and crafts inspired by virtual learning. Each week on Facebook and Instagram these amazing makes are being shared for all to see and perhaps inspire others to get crafting and making to.

My younger youth theatre members have really enjoyed our weekly singalongs of some great upbeat songs as well as our now weekly Quiz.

Little Red Riding Hood: The Pantomime!

image0.jpeg

We are just about to enter the Dress and Tech weekend for the Pantomime! Little Red Riding Hood! The show has been so much fun to put together; always highly ambitious and a challenge for everyone involved! Ever year I grow prouder as the students grow in both skills and confidence!

Rosamund Derry has written the script once again this year. She has spent hours carefully creating characters that will not only entertain; but also individually written for each student! We also have several new students treading the boards for their first show!

I must thank all the parents who have been busy painting and designing the set. In particular Kath Stratfield, Set Designer, who ventured into the darkest depths of the Scrapstore with me! And Kimberly Neville who has designed and crafted all the costumes!

Please do drum up support, these kids need an audience and word of mouth is our most powerful advertiser! See you at the show!!

The Secret Garden

This years theme for  Summer School will be The Secret Garden, and together with several arts practitioners I am planning to create a magical piece of theatre, within the gardens of Helland Barton Farm in the very heart of Delabole.

Each day your child will take part in a dance technique class first thing, a specialist workshop with a local arts practitioner and then begin the creative process. From 10am to 4pm daily we will laugh, create and begin to weave our magic as our story will take shape.

The performance itself will promenade around the gardens, which have various settings for us to explore. Audience will be invited to bring their own picnics to enjoy at their leisure, then guided through the space to enjoy various installations around the grounds.

Performances:  Friday 31st August 6pm & Saturday 1st September 6pm
(Audience welcomed from 6pm for picnics, show start time 6:45pm)

Happy New Year to all!

Happy New Year to all! I have realised 'Starmakers',  is about to enter its 8th Year and is growing into a wild and fantastical beast. The tech team have been working hard today in the foggy depths of Delabole. Fuelled by Christmas Pasties and Chips we worked tirelessly to produce the set for our latest Panto; Beauty and the Beast. It's wonderful to see mums and daughters working alongside one another to produce a set that will hopefully take the kids breath away at the Dress Rehearsal on Saturday.  If you do fancy helping with set or costume do get in touch or grab me for a chat at rehearsals.

I have just added the Spring Terms list of dates and Course Feed to FB and the newly updated website so do share freely; all are welcome!
